Alfa Romeo is shifting toward making all its cars electric in the coming years, and the first step seems to be the new Milano. It’s a small SUV, and while it might also have a regular gasoline engine like its cousin, the Jeep Avenger, Alfa is mostly talking about the electric version for now. And it sounds like it could be pretty exciting.

In terms of looks, the Milano is unmistakably an Alfa. It’s sleek and has the distinctive triangle-shaped grille that’s a signature of the brand. The headlights are shaped like boomerangs and blend into extra air vents beside the grille. The grille itself can have different designs, like the classic mesh with “Alfa Romeo” written on it in blue or the zoomed-in Alfa shield pattern in red. The back of the car is wide, trying to mimic the design of the Alfa Romeo TZ sports car, although it’s not clear how successful it is.

The Milano is quite small, a bit larger than a Kia Soul but smaller than a Jeep Renegade. The interior is typical Alfa, with a 10.25-inch instrument screen and a similar-sized infotainment screen. There are round air vents on either end of the dashboard.

As for the power, the standard models will have a 156-horsepower motor at the front, while the Veloce version will have a more powerful 240-horsepower motor. Both will have a 54-kWh battery pack, with the standard version offering around 250 miles of range on the WLTP cycle. The Veloce will likely have less range.

The Veloce also gets some performance upgrades, like sitting lower on bigger wheels, stiffer anti-roll bars, better brakes, and a limited-slip differential. It sounds like it’ll be a lot of fun to drive.

The Milano will be available to order in Europe this summer, but unfortunately, it won’t be coming to America. Alfa Romeo confirmed that there are no plans to bring it here.
