The Ram 1500 TRX is set to be discontinued after the 2024 model year, with the RHO poised to take its place. Standing for Ram High Output or possibly Rebel High Output, considering the standard Hurricane engine in the Rebel versus the high-output Hurricane in the RHO the new model is also being nicknamed the Rhino by FCA US LLC executives, including Ram truck brand CEO Tim Kuniskis.

The company has released a teaser video featuring a 2024 Ram 2500 Rebel with a Cummins inline-six turbo diesel engine towing a trailer. On the trailer, covered in desert camouflage, sits the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO. The choice of desert camouflage suggests that, like its Hellcat-engined predecessor, the TRX, the RHO is better suited for dune bashing than tackling rocky terrain.

The video concludes with a reveal date of April 25 under the Ram logo, signaling a debut just over a week from the date of the report. Expected to be offered only in a Crew Cab with a 5-foot-7-inch (1,702 millimeters) box, similar to the TRX, the RHO, however, won’t start at the TRX’s price of $96,585 due to its downsized engine shifting from 6.2 liters and eight cylinders to 3.0 liters and six cylinders likely disappointing some fans. This comes as Ram seeks to not lose more potential buyers after eliminating the 5.7-liter HEMI from the 1500 lineup.

In the wake of disappointing sales figures in the first quarter of 2024, where Ram P/U series sales dropped by 15 percent year-over-year, FCA US LLC is keenly aware of its market position, especially compared to a 10.2 percent decline for the F-Series and a 2.4 percent increase for the Chevy Silverado.

Currently, the Ram 1500 offers a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque as its standard engine, with the high-performance Hurricane variant producing 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. The high-output version of this engine delivers 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque, which are expected to remain in the RHO.

The 2024 Raptor starts at $78,330, with the 37 Equipment Group adding $11,470, primarily for the upgraded BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires, a step up from the TRX’s 35-inch Goodyear tires.
