In the mid-size pickup truck market, the GMC Canyon thrives alongside the popular Chevy Colorado, with the third generation debuting for the 2023 model year. The Sierra and Sierra HD flaunt luxury in the Denali models or conquer tough terrains with the AT4X and AT4X AEV Editions.
Additionally, the GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is set for summer deliveries, offering improved specifications and performance at a starting price of $97,500. In the SUV category, the 2024 Acadia, a sibling to the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse, debuted its third generation at the 2023 North American International Auto Show. The refreshed GMC Terrain, Yukon, and Yukon XL are also on the horizon, with teaser campaigns already launched.
However, the GMC Hummer EV, an all-electric giant starting at $96,550 as a pickup truck or SUV, hasn’t won over many North American buyers since its 2022 launch.
It faced numerous issues, including a slow rollout and environmental concerns about its sustainability given its massive size. Despite a significant sales surge of 82,885.07% in early 2024 compared to Q1 2023, it only delivered 1,668 units, a small number against its competitors.
During this period, the GMC Hummer EV ranked below the Ford F-150 Lightning (7,743 units, up over 80%) and the Rivian R1T (2,400 units, down 30%), but above the Chevy Silverado EV WT and Tesla’s Cybertruck. With Tesla ramping up production, it would be wise for GMC to enhance the Hummer EV for the 2025 model year.
Digital car content creators, like Nikita Chuicko (known as kelsonik), suggest that the Hummer EV could be made cooler with larger, aftermarket-style concave and darkened wheels and contrasting red and yellow colors.
