The Skoda Elroq, a new compact electric crossover, is set to replace the Karoq. The Karoq, which has been around since 2017, shares its VW Group MQB A1 platform with the SEAT Ateca and Volkswagen T-Roc and offers gasoline and diesel engines.

The Elroq will use the modern MEB platform, which is dedicated to electric vehicles. This platform is also used in other VW Group models, including the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.6, ID.7, ID. Buzz, Skoda Enyaq, Cupra Born, Tavascan, Audi Q4 e-tron, Q5 e-tron, and the Ford Explorer EV.

Given the shared components, the Elroq will likely feature similar battery packs and electric motors. A dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant is expected, although it might debut later. Skoda announced the Elroq last year, positioning it below the Enyaq in their EV lineup.

At around 177 inches (4.5 meters) long, it’s comparable in size to the Ford Explorer EV. Skoda describes the Elroq as having a spacious and practical interior that is ideal for families. Whether it will excel in its class remains to be seen.

The Elroq has distinctive design elements, including split headlamps, a closed-off grille, a large lower air intake, a clamshell hood, shorter rear overhang, traditional door handles, arched front and rear pillars, LED taillights, a clean bumper, and a roof-mounted wing.

It also features a shark fin antenna, unique alloys, and generous ground clearance, befitting a crossover. Skoda plans to reveal the Elroq later this year, with a possible debut in the fall and orders opening before the end of 2024. As testing continues and prototypes lose camouflage, more details will emerge.
