General Motors announced on Friday that Tony Roma will take over as the executive chief engineer of the Corvette program starting in July, succeeding Tadge Juechter who is retiring. Roma, who previously worked on the Corvette program, has also been involved in various Cadillac projects such as the ATS, CTS, Celestiq, and both Blackwings.

Roma expressed his excitement about this new role, highlighting his deep connection to the Corvette team and fans worldwide. “As a car enthusiast and racer, I have been part of nearly every event our customers participate in: road racing, auto cross, road rally, cross country adventure, car shows, drag racing, and more,” Roma said. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the Corvette meets the expectations of its customers and performs exceptionally well in all aspects.

For those concerned about how Roma’s personal preferences might influence his work, it may be reassuring to know that his personal garage includes notable Corvette models like the C4 ZR1, C6 ZR1, C8 Z06, and a CTS-V Wagon, with plans to add a C8 ZR1. Roma is also recognized with GM’s highest test driver rating and is certified to drive on the demanding Nürburgring circuit during Industry-Pool sessions.

Approaching his new role with humility, Roma acknowledged the significant legacy of the Corvette brand and the contributions of his predecessors dating back to the original Corvette in the 1950s. “Corvette has earned a special place in American automotive history thanks to dedicated individuals like Tadge Juechter,” Roma stated, acknowledging the responsibility of continuing the strong legacy of the Corvette nameplate.

Tadge Juechter, who has been a key figure in GM Performance for decades, particularly since becoming chief engineer of Corvette in 2006, leaves behind a substantial career spanning 47 years with General Motors. Throughout his tenure, Juechter has been instrumental in shaping the Corvette program and maintaining its prominence in the automotive industry.

Roma’s appointment marks a significant transition for the Corvette program, as he prepares to build on the foundation laid by his predecessors and steer the iconic American sports car into the future. His blend of engineering expertise, personal passion for performance vehicles, and commitment to customer satisfaction positions him well to uphold the Corvette’s esteemed reputation.
