Tesla Might Finally Roll Out Essential Navigation Update

Tesla is considering adding a new feature to its navigation system that lets drivers avoid highways, which could make a big difference for Tesla owners. The news came from a gaming stream with CEO Elon Musk, where he responded positively to a viewer’s suggestion about the feature. According to Teslarati, Musk quickly agreed, saying, “Yeah, sure,” before moving on to other topics.

Tesla is a well-known American electric vehicle maker that has been a major player in the shift toward electric cars. Founded in 2003, the company is headquartered in Austin, Texas, and is publicly traded. Elon Musk, known for his interaction with customers, often takes their feedback seriously.

While Musk’s statement isn’t a guarantee the feature will be added soon, his track record suggests it’s likely. Adding an “avoid highways” option to models like the Model 3 and Model S would bring Tesla’s navigation system up to speed with rivals like Apple Maps and Google Maps, which have offered this feature for years.

Tesla Might Finally Roll Out Essential Navigation Update

Tesla has recently introduced several updates that customers are excited about. These include the return of Smart Summon and Autopark features to vehicles, following their removal during the transition to new sensor technology. The company’s software update 2024.20 also improved HVAC performance, upgraded adaptive headlights, and enhanced the Tesla Arcade, though Steam support was discontinued for new Model S and Model X vehicles.

However, Tesla has faced challenges this year, including its worst first-quarter earnings report in years. The company has had layoffs and legal issues, including investigations into alleged securities fraud. These challenges could affect timelines for new features and decisions like relocating Tesla’s incorporation to Texas and Elon Musk’s compensation.

Despite the setbacks, Tesla continues to innovate and expand its electric vehicle offerings, including highly anticipated models like the Cybertruck. As Tesla navigates these issues, Tesla owners may have to wait a bit longer before they can avoid highways with a simple tap on their vehicle’s navigation system.
