To maintain its position as the best-selling mid-sized vehicle, the all-new Tacoma is even better than before.

The most popular mid-sized truck on the American market is the Toyota Tacoma. This is no small feat, especially because homegrown items are more highly valued in the American market. Not by chance did the Tacoma become the most popular vehicle.

It has many of the features that American truck customers value. Its stylish look hits the lifestyle aspect wonderfully, but it’s still a dependable vehicle.

2024 Toyota Tacoma: Every Tacoma Lineup

Up until this point, all Tacomas had highly dependable, uncomplicated drivetrains. Also, purchasers can trim levels geared toward off-road use, including the TRD Pro. The result of all this was a vehicle that the American market adored.

2024 Toyota Tacoma SR

Tacoma’s base trim remains the SR, and even though it’s still basic and geared toward budget and business clients, it offers a significant improvement over the outgoing Tacoma SR.

A lower-output version of the 2018 Tacoma’s i-FORCE turbocharged 2.4-liter I-4 gas engine is included in standard equipment. This engine produces 228 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, 42 horsepower and 22 lb-ft less than the identical engine built in the SR5 model, which is one level above. That much power, though, is equal to the 2.4-liter I-4 and optional V-6 of the previous Tacoma models.

Other notable features include those fantastic steel wheels, a six-speed manual transmission that is optional (just for crew cab models), and active safety features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist that are standard.

The SR additionally substitutes leaf springs for the top trims’ coil springs in the rear.

Available in RWD or 4WD and the body types of Double Cab (crew cab) and XtraCab (extended cab).

2024 Toyota Tacoma SR5

The popular SR5 variant has significantly improved over the base SR, including aluminum wheels and a more powerful version of the I-FORCE turbocharged engine.

The crew-cab versions employ the more modern coil-spring rear suspension arrangement, and the I-FORCE produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

2024 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner

Even though it uses the name “PreRunner,” previously used for Tacomas, this is a new trim level for 2024.

The new Tacoma PreRunner is rear-wheel drive, just like those earlier PreRunner models, but it has an off-road orientation. A locking rear differential is present, the front suspension is raised compared to non-PreRunner 2WD Tacomas, and all-terrain tires are wrapped around 17-inch TRD wheels. Toyota only offers this version with the six-foot bed in a two-door XtraCab configuration, which means it relies on a leaf-sprung rear axle.

The area behind the two front seats is used for storage cubbies. PreRunners also use the more powerful i-FORCE engine, which produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet, an increase of 8 horsepower and seven lb-feet over the SR5 specification.

Available in XtraCab(extended cab) and RWD only.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport

The Tacoma TRD Sport, which has a more street-ready design motif than the others, is the first of the several TRD-branded trim levels available for the Tacoma series.

The 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport has more body-color trim, sexier alloys, and a hood scoop than the previous generation. There are “TRD Sport” stickers on each flank as well.

With the standard i-FORCE turbo engine, the Sport is also one of the few trims with a six-speed manual transmission. Additionally, it is the first Tacoma specification to offer the optional i-FORCE MAX hybrid system, which combines electrification with a 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder to provide 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque.

It is also the first trim level with a digital gauge cluster and a larger infotainment screen.

Available in Double Cab (crew cab) only, RWD or 4WD

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

This, the TRD Off-Road, is the opposite side of the TRD-branded mid-range Tacoma coin. As its name suggests, it is designed to get dirty, but at a more affordable price than the TRD Pro, the top-of-the-line model.

Body armor, underbody skidplates, hefty tires, Bilstein shocks, Multi-Terrain Select, and a locking rear differential are all included.

A six-speed manual transmission is available on the TRD Off-Road, just like the TRD Sport, but only with the i-FORCE engine, which isn’t a hybrid. It features 33-inch tires, a Taco first, and a front-axle anti-roll bar disconnect option.

Available in Double Cab (crew cab), 4WD only

2024 Toyota Tacoma Limited

This is the upscale member of the Tacoma family, a midsize designed to compete with GMC’s Canyon Denali and models like it.

Thus, the Tacoma Limited has many standard features and 18-inch wheels, trim, and silver accents. Even though it is only available with the optional i-FORCE MAX hybrid (the turbo I-4 is expected), a full-time four-wheel drive is an option (as opposed to the part-time hardware included on every other four-wheel-drive Tacoma).

Electronic adaptive dampers are also included with a larger touchscreen, power-extending running boards, a driver’s head-up display, heated and cooled front seats, and other features.

Available in Double Cab (crew cab) only, RWD or 4WD

2024 Toyota Tacoma Trailhunter

The Tacoma Trailhunter is a brand-new trim level for 2024, joining the TRD Pro near the top of the list. The Trailhunter is off-road orientated, just like that other big truck, but with a concentration on overlanding expeditions.

As a result, the i-FORCE MAX hybrid system, the most potent Tacoma engine, is standard and draws air in through a high-mount air intake (that snorkel you see above).

Other standard features include Old Man Emu 2.5-inch monotube shocks with piggyback reservoirs, an ARB steel rear bumper and tow hooks, rock rails, a high-clearance front bumper, bronze TRD wheels, and 33-inch Goodyear Territory R/T tires. Adventure equipment, such as an ARB sports bar for the 5- and 6-foot bed variants, can be added at the factory.

The variety of suspension configurations Toyota has created for the 2017 Tacoma is astounding.

Consider the TRD Pro, which has 2.5-inch Fox internal-bypass shocks with piggyback reservoirs; the PreRunner; the Limited; the TRD Off-Road; the TRD Sport; and the Trailhunter; additionally, the Limited has adaptive units; the TRD Off-Road has Bilstein’s; the TRD Sport has TRD Sport-tuned components; and the TRD Pro has Tokicos with Toyota branding.

Oh, and the truck’s lower-spec Double Cabs and XtraCab variants have leaf springs instead of the coils on everything else. ARB rear bumper, locking rear differential, 33-inch Goodyear tires, and more are all shared by the TRD Pro and Trailhunter, the Tacoma family’s two most extreme off-road vehicles.

It also comes with the fantastic new Isodynamic shock absorber front seats.
