Following the release of the off-grid Interstate 24X in 2021, the firm now offers the Interstate 19X, a smaller, single-rear-wheel variant that is based on the 144-inch Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 Extended 4×4 platform (as opposed to the 170-inch 3500 dual-rear-wheel model). The AWD platform is an upgradeable option.
While this touring coach has less inside capacity, its shorter 19-foot size makes it more maneuverable in the wild and, if needed, more manageable as a daily vehicle. Airstream touts its Interstate X vans as “lifestyle support vehicles” for whatever your passions are, and the Interstate 19X joins the expanding van market.
The Airstream Interstate 19X seems exactly as it should. Black protective coating covering the lower side moldings and extending onto the bumpers and hood gives it a “heavy bottom”.
This coating offers defense against brush, rocks, and everything else van life may throw at it. It also creates a beautiful contrast with the only exterior paint option, Iridium Silver Metallic.
A Flare space Tenzing Trailhead brush guard with integrated lights adds additional front-end protection.
245/70R17 BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires are mounted on its fashionable 17-inch black aluminum wheels. A powered push-button armless patio awning with LED lighting, elegant badges, matte black running boards, an exterior shower, an exterior gear wash station, and 250 watts of rooftop solar are further features.
The Airstream Interstate 19X’s Red Rock interior design and simple floor layout beckon travelers to unwind and re-energize. In keeping with the Airstream brand, aluminum is used for the inside walls, ceiling, and window trim. For those who prefer the comfort of an onboard private bathroom, there is an enclosed private bathroom with a toilet, shower, and sink.
All the necessary on-the-go conveniences are provided in the galley, which spans both sides of the van: a solid-surface countertop with elegant lighting, a sink, a refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, and a stable 1,000-watt single burner induction cooktop.
Rear convertible sofas made of Simtex Marine-Grade Carbon Gray can be used as either a twin or a Queen bed measuring 74 by 70 inches. Both 5G internet and satellite TV are already pre-wired.
Airstream maximizes storage with netted overhead storage compartments, under-seat storage, and L-track on the ceiling, floors, and walls despite its vast array of side and rear windows that assure ample lighting. A separate galley window screen from the sliding door is one feature that is very intriguing.
Fresh, gray, and black water holding tanks on the Interstate 19X are 20 gallons, 16 gallons, and 9 gallons, respectively. It has a diesel-fired Truma Combi furnace/water heater and a 13,000 BTU non-ducted air conditioner.
Two 100Ah lithium batteries, a 2.5kW generator powered by gas, onboard propane, and a 2,000-watt inverter are all present. For further off-grid functionality, customers can upgrade to Airstream’s E1 Package.
The 2024 Airstream Interstate 19X is marketed by authorized Airstream dealers and has a starting price of $199,940.
