In 2024, the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are undergoing a significant transformation as they bid farewell to the Hemi V-8 engines that were once synonymous with their power. This shift to a six-cylinder-only engine lineup was anticipated, and Jeep recently unveiled details about its latest three-row SUVs, confirming the departure of the V-8 engines.
In a parallel move, Ram, Jeep’s corporate sibling, has similarly revamped its half-ton truck. The new iteration of the truck has abandoned its V-8 engines in favor of the Hurricane twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six engine.
While Jeep has not officially released information for the 2024 model year, documents we obtained suggest that the upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will exclusively feature the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine. This signals the discontinuation of the previously available 5.7-liter and 6.4-liter V-8 engines.
For the standard 2024 Wagoneer, changes are evident in the fleet order guide and EPA ratings. The 392-hp 5.7-liter V-8, which was an option for the short-wheelbase version, will no longer be available. Instead, the Wagoneer will be offered exclusively with the 420-hp version of the Hurricane inline-six, providing buyers with a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Details for the Grand Wagoneer’s 2024 lineup are not as clear, with the EPA listing the 6.4-liter V-8. However, a dealership pricing database indicates that all models will be equipped with the 3.0-liter six, suggesting the possible continuation of last year’s information. The high-output Hurricane engine in the Grand Wagoneer offers an impressive 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet, surpassing the V-8’s 471 hp and 455 pound-feet.
