The second iteration of Acura’s TLX compact luxury sedan undergoes a subtle redesign for its mid-cycle refresh, focusing on enhancing features that resonate most with its customers: the sedan’s expansive, sophisticated exterior design and its well-equipped array of interior features.

While the overall silhouette of the TLX remains unchanged—why alter a design that was already stunningly flawless?—the 2024 models introduce fresh, more dazzling frameless grilles, expanded color options, and a streamlined model lineup, adhering to a less-is-more philosophy.

In 2023, the TLX boasted nearly a handful of available trims, ranging from the modest entry-level base model to the exclusive Type S PMC Edition. Customers were confronted with decisions regarding front- or all-wheel drive and various performance packages, prompting Acura to respond to their call for simplification. For 2024, the Technology package becomes standard, exclusively paired with front-wheel drive. The lineup is completed by the A-Spec and Type S models, both featuring all-wheel drive.

The redesigned grille for the base and A-Spec TLX showcases a sparkling, broader diamond mesh pattern resembling a dew-covered spiderweb. Meanwhile, the Type S sports a tighter pattern, and both grilles are finished in gloss black. Concealed but undoubtedly beneficial is a new radar positioned behind the Acura logo.

The Type S model also features a comprehensive surround camera. The TLX and A-Spec versions are equipped with 19-inch split five-spoke wheels in dark gray, while the Type S boasts 20-inch wheels in shiny black. Although both cars are exhibited with all-season tires, the TLX Type S offers the option of high-performance summer tires on copper 20-inch wheels.

At the rear, the A-Spec receives a new diffuser and round exhaust tips. The Type S, already equipped with a more aggressive diffuser and quad tips, remains unaltered, with the option of a carbon-fiber spoiler. Two new paint colors join the TLX palette: Urban Gray Pearl (exclusive to A-Spec and Type S) and the darker Liquid Carbon Metallic, initially seen on the MDX (available for TLX with the Technology package).

Performance-wise, we don’t anticipate major changes in any of the TLX models. Both the Technology and A-Spec variants retain the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, generating 272 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, maintaining the specifications from 2023.

However, the A-Spec now boasts a quieter ride with thicker carpets, increased noise-cushioning padding, and acoustic glass in the front doors. On the Type S, the turbo 3.0-liter V-6 continues to deliver 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, with tweaked modes for a more responsive throttle in sporty settings. Both engine options are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Upon entering the cabin, consumers can choose between a red or black leather interior, with the Type S additionally offering a Pearly Orchid. Inside, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a matching 12.3-inch center screen await, providing 20 percent more screen real estate compared to the 2023 models and faster responsiveness to user inputs. Standard features include phone connectivity, and the TLX now incorporates Amazon Alexa Built-In. Rear-seat passengers benefit from charging ports, and a wireless charging pad is a standard inclusion across all models.

For those seeking a sophisticated alternative to the conventional German sporty sedans, the TLX will be available at Acura dealerships in late November.
