There’s currently a lot of excitement surrounding the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI, Rockstar Games’ lucrative franchise.
While we typically don’t delve into transportation-themed video games, the upcoming installment has captured my interest. After spending over a decade exploring the North Yankton and San Andreas maps in Grand Theft Auto V, the recent release of the GTA VI trailer on December 4 has brought a breath of fresh air.
The game is set to take players back to the fictionalized Vice City in Florida, reviving the hype around this iconic location. Even Hyundai Motorsport is capitalizing on the excitement with a playful trailer of its own.
Hyundai Motorsport GmbH, the motorsports arm of the South Korean automaker established in Germany in 2012, actively supports the Hyundai World Rally Team in the World Rally Championship and assists customer racing efforts.
While you may not have been aware of Hyundai’s motorsport division, it has been involved in racing for at least two decades, achieving notable success.
In 2023, Hyundai Motorsport secured two wins, fifteen podiums, and four double podium finishes in WRC, marking its third-largest points total since joining the series in 2014. The team has also made strides in electric competition, participating in FIA ETCR.
Hyundai Motorsport’s TCR Touring Car customers had a successful year, accumulating 10 titles, 45 wins, 112 podiums, and 35 pole positions. Customers with i20 R5 and i20 N Rally2 racers claimed 10 titles, 96 wins, over 270 podiums, and more than 900 stage wins.
The accompanying video showcases Hyundai Motorsport’s key talents, including Ott Tänak and Thierry Neuville, who humorously take on the roles of robbers. Ott Tänak, a WRC Drivers’ Champion, has been a standout performer since his debut in 2011.
Thierry Neuville, with a passion for racing, has been a regular title contender since joining WRC in 2009, contributing significantly to Hyundai Motorsport’s success.
With a substantial social media presence, Hyundai Motorsport boasts 430,000 followers on Instagram, showcasing a dedicated fanbase.
Their GTA VI-themed video has garnered significant attention, amassing over 551,563 views, a remarkable achievement compared to other videos in their playlist.
As for GTA VI itself, the release is scheduled for 2025, according to Rockstar’s plans. Until then, fans will have to content themselves with GTA-related media, and it appears Hyundai Motorsport is doing just that. Here’s to another exciting year of racing!
