Long-time racer Alexandre Imperatori has taken on the role of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Series Manager at Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, where he will be part of the One-Make Series department.
As the series gears up for its 21st season in 2024, the campaign is set to kick off at the Shanghai International Circuit, coinciding with the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix on April 20-21.
Imperatori, originally from Switzerland but now based in Shanghai, has been associated with the PCCA Organization since 2016, serving as one of the coaches for the series’ Talent Pool program.
Having previously competed in the championship, he clinched the title in 2012, and his racing achievements include podium finishes at the Macau GT Cup, a third-place finish at the 2015 24 Hours of Nürburgring, and a repeat of that result at the 2022 Rolex 24 at Daytona.
In his new role, Imperatori will receive support from Boya Qi, One-Make Series Senior Manager, as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Qi, previously focused on Porsche Carrera Cup Asia, will now shift her attention to coordinating other One-Make championships in the region, such as Porsche Sprint Challenge China, Porsche Sprint Trophy Thailand, and the newly introduced Porsche Sprint Challenge Indonesia.
The series’ calendar for the upcoming season includes races at various iconic circuits, including Shanghai, Suzuka, Chang International Circuit (Buriram, Thailand), the Bangsaen Street Circuit (Thailand), Sepang in Malaysia, an F1 support race at Singapore’s Marina Bay circuit, and a return to Shanghai for the finale.
Notably, the series will feature, for the first time in its history, an invitational Endurance Championship as part of two events on the existing calendar – Sepang and the Shanghai finale.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Alexandre Imperatori stated, “It is with great pleasure that I will be stepping up into the role of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Series Manager this season.”
While he doesn’t plan to retire from full-time racing just yet, he views this opportunity as the right moment to embark on a new and exciting professional chapter.
He looks forward to leveraging his racing experience to contribute to the success of Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and ensuring its continued prominence as the benchmark for the One-Make Series in the region and globally.
Managing Director of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd., Alexandre Gibot, expressed his delight at Imperatori’s appointment, highlighting his years of involvement with Porsche Carrera Cup Asia as a Talent Pool coach.
Gibot anticipates a successful collaboration with Imperatori as they navigate the 21st season of the series.
He emphasized the significance of having a former champion like Imperatori take on the managerial role, marking an exciting development for the One Make Series program as a whole, with Boya Qi overseeing multiple championships in the region.
Gibot looks forward to building on the strength of their single-make championships in the upcoming 2024 season.
