NASCAR enthusiasts, rejoice! The much-anticipated pre-season exhibition race in Los Angeles is poised to kick off the 2024 season with a burst of adrenaline. However, there’s a looming concern as extreme weather conditions threaten to disrupt the weekend’s festivities.
Current weather forecasts paint a grim picture for Los Angeles, predicting a high risk of “damaging, life-threatening flooding.” Despite this, NASCAR is determined to salvage some on-track action on Saturday, with the forecast indicating a 100% chance of rain for Sunday.
Regrettably, the rain threat extends beyond the weekend, with the likelihood of precipitation exceeding 80% until Wednesday. The National Weather Service is anticipating three to six inches of rainfall in the area during this period.
NASCAR, equipped with rain tires, has the capability to navigate damp conditions, though their usage is limited. In addition to the L.A. Clash, the NASCAR Mexico Series is set to make history with its inaugural exhibition event at the 1/4-mile track. Daniel Suarez of Trackhouse Racing plans to participate in both races.
