Named in homage to the company’s history, Sagrera pays tribute to the Barcelona district where Hispano Suiza established its first major production facility, a strategic move that enabled the brand to meet growing demand.
Spanning 50,000 square meters after two expansions and employing 1,800 personnel, the factory embodies the brand’s growth and success.
Crafted by Francesc Arenas, the brand’s Styling and Design Director, Sagrera draws inspiration from the Carmen, launched in 2019, featuring a prominent rear wing crafted from carbon fiber, signaling its serious intent.
Joining the Hispano Suiza family as its third member, the all-electric Sagrera is set to debut in mid-2024, coinciding with the brand’s 120th anniversary. Enhanced with a new 103 kW battery pack, the hypercar promises extended driving range.
Founded by Damian Mateu, the fourth generation of the Suque Matey family, in 1904, the brand received crucial support from engineer Marc Birkigt. Between 1904 and 1946, Hispano Suiza manufactured over 12,000 vehicles and 50,000 aircraft engines.
Despite disappearing from the automotive scene in the late 1960s, attempts at revival were made, notably in 2010 with a model showcased by affiliated firm Erwin Leo Himmel at the Geneva Motor Show, albeit production never commenced.
A resurgence came in 2019 with the unveiling of the Carmen at the Geneva Motor Show, with only 19 units produced over two years in a highly limited run. Named after the granddaughter of one of the brand’s co-founders, Damian Meteu, the Carmen boasted 1,005 horsepower.
In 2021, the Carmen Boulogne, with a production run of just five units totaling 24, featured additional power (1,099 horsepower) from two extra motors and underwent a visual transformation, including copper accents on an unpainted black carbon fiber body for a more aggressive look.
Both models were equipped with an 80 kWh battery pack, providing a standard range of 249 miles (400 kilometers), with the first unit arriving in the United States in 2022.
The Carmen Sagrera is poised for a US debut, although production numbers remain undisclosed, hinting at another ultra-exclusive release from Hispano Suiza.
