General Motors has temporarily halted sales of the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon due to undisclosed software issues, affecting approximately 15,000 pickups that have yet to reach customers.

The company has swiftly addressed the problem, with Brandee Baker, GM’s vice president of global technology communications, indicating that a fix is already underway. These vehicles were experiencing sporadic software quality issues, as stated by Baker.

This marks the second sales suspension for GM within three months, following a similar action taken for the Chevy Blazer EV just before the holiday season due to reported software issues, such as touchscreen malfunctions and charging difficulties.

Kevin Kelly, a spokesperson for GM, expressed disappointment over the sales pause, emphasizing the company’s commitment to enhancing its software capabilities and overall quality.

GM is actively expanding its software team and refining development and validation processes to ensure that technology meets consumer expectations. This focus on software has intensified since GM decided to move away from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in favor of its proprietary embedded system, aiming to minimize driver distractions.

The automotive industry’s pursuit of integrating new software and technology has been met with challenges, resulting in over half of new vehicle launches being delayed since 2020, with software-related issues being a significant contributing factor.
