Toyota’s all-new 4Runner prototype has been spotted testing in Arizona, sharing similarities with the fourth-generation Tacoma, including TRD Off-Road wheels on all corners.
Resembling the Tacoma in windshield rake and featuring a rear door akin to the GX 550, this generation of the GX is twinned with the Land Cruiser 250 series. Notably, the 250 replaces the 150 in the United States market, aligning with Toyota’s preference for the GX 460.
The 2024 model year introduces the 4Runner, built on the Toyota New Global Architecture – Frame shared with the Tacoma, Sequoia, Tundra, and GX 550. Visual cues from the prototype suggest a blend of Tacoma and 250 styling.
Distinguishing features may include alterations in the front end, potentially including variations in the radiator grille and lower grille design. The 4Runner is expected to offer both assisted and unassisted four-pot engine options, with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid four-cylinder turbo powertrain akin to the 250 series.
Unlike Tacoma’s less potent variant, the 4Runner should adopt the 2.4-liter turbocharged mill found in higher trim levels, boasting 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Toyota’s focus on electrification aligns with the inclusion of the i-FORCE MAX system, enhancing power and efficiency.
