Custom bike builders are often drawn to vintage UJMs, and the Yamaha XS650 holds a special place due to its reliability and charm. In Portugal, Maria Riding Company (MRC) showcases its craftsmanship through notable builds, like the Zagalote from 2018.
Based on a 1980 XS650 variant, the Zagalote retained much of its original components, with MRC focusing on cosmetic enhancements. While the air-cooled 653cc parallel-twin engine remained untouched internally, MRC applied a satin-black finish to certain parts and powder-coated the wheels and frame for a clean look.
The subframe was shortened, and a bespoke leather seat was added, while aftermarket components like LSL handlebars and LED turn signals were integrated seamlessly. With meticulous attention to detail and a unique color scheme, the Zagalote exemplifies MRC’s expertise in blending vintage aesthetics with modern performance.
