A bright sun illuminated the gleaming black surface, sticky like chewing gum on a sneaker, as a black stallion revved on the starting line.

With a roar, Rebecca Starkey of VMP Performance pressed the accelerator, filling the Coyote engine with a boost. The Nitto 555R2 rear tires gripped the pavement as the 10R80 automatic transmission shifted gears.

As the Gen 4 Coyote engine roared, the scoreboards at Orlando Speed World lit up, displaying a remarkable 9.999 at 142.72 mph. This marked the first time a supercharged 2024 Mustang GT broke into single-digit quarter-mile times.

“The car drove amazingly on the first hit off the trailer. I was not expecting it to be so easy,” said Rebecca, an experienced driver known for her quick Mustangs. “I knew what was possible based on math and physics alone, but I was a little bit apprehensive.”

Ford’s latest S650 platform and Gen 4 Coyote 5.0-liter engine have elevated performance to new heights. However, the new electronic architecture and tightly locked ECU present challenges for aftermarket upgrades.

Whipple Superchargers leads the charge, offering its Gen 6 3.0-liter system for the 2024 Mustang GT, unlocking the engine’s potential.

Partnering with Whipple, VMP Performance now offers these kits to its customers. Their 2024 Mustang GT, equipped with the Nite Pony appearance package and Active Valve Performance Exhaust, showcased impressive power on VMP’s in-house Dynojet.

With just a supercharger and calibration, the Mustang registered up to 810 horsepower and 629.78 lb-ft of torque.

“This situation is like one plus one equals three,” said Justin Starkey, president of VMP Performance. “It’s just incredible. I think it’s a tribute to the new Mustang and Gen 4 Coyote as well as the supercharger system and the tuning.”

As the 2024 Mustang supercharging trend gains momentum, there’s potential for even greater performance with increased boost and aggressive tuning.

The VMP S650, largely stock apart from the supercharger, is poised for further enhancements. With smaller supercharger pulleys ready for installation, the car is set to improve its record-setting 9-second pass soon.
