Late but not too late, the Metropolitan Police successfully located the Ferrari that was stolen from Formula 1 racing driver Gerhard Berger in 1995 while he was participating in the San Marino Grand Prix.

With the assistance of authorities and dealerships worldwide, the Metropolitan Police managed to recover the stolen Ferrari Testarossa F512M in Rosso Corsa, which thieves had taken from the Austrian racer over 28 years ago.

During the theft, Berger, a prominent figure in Formula 1, was competing in the 1995 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, Italy. Despite his efforts to chase the thieves in a friend’s Volkswagen Golf, Berger couldn’t catch them during the street pursuit.

The Ferrari Testarossa F512M, one of around 500 built between 1994 and 1996, was equipped with a potent 4.9-liter Tipo F113 mid-mounted flat-12 engine, producing 434 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque.

Despite its impressive performance, the car was stolen and shipped to Japan shortly afterward. However, in late 2023, it was brought back to the United Kingdom.

The Organized Vehicle Crime Unit of the Metropolitan Police, aided by international cooperation and information from the Italian carmaker Ferrari, managed to trace the stolen Ferrari in January 2024.

They recovered a total of 418 cars worth approximately 31 million pounds, with the Ferrari F512M being one of them. While no arrests have been made yet, the investigation continues, and authorities remain hopeful of locating the second stolen sports car, belonging to F1 driver Jean Alesi.
