Dodge has unveiled its first-ever electric vehicle, the all-new Charger Daytona, marking a significant shift in powertrain while maintaining its reputation as the world’s fastest and most potent muscle car. The 2024 Dodge Charger debuts in sedan and coupe variants, each sharing identical wheelbases, and is introduced in two trim levels upon its launch.
The standout model is the Dodge Daytona Scat Pack, boasting a remarkable output of up to 670 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque, with an anticipated 0-60 mph acceleration of 3.3 seconds.
Alternatively, the R/T variant offers up to 496 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque, propelling it from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. While the R/T attains a top speed of 137 mph, the Scat Pack reaches a maximum of 134 mph, yet it reclaims superiority with an 11.5-second quarter-mile time, leaving the R/T trailing at 13.1 seconds.
Underpinning the new Charger is the STLA Large platform, featuring a 400V system equipped with a motor on each axle.
Standard all-wheel drive is complemented by a disconnectable front electric drive module for enhanced efficiency. The rear boasts a mechanical limited-slip differential, with each unit generating 250 kW (335 hp) and 300 lb-ft of torque.
Notably, Dodge has optimized both trims with performance upgrades, enhancing the R/T with a Direct Connection Stage 1 kit and elevating its horsepower by 40. Similarly, the Daytona Scat Pack receives a Stage 2 kit, unlocking an additional 80 hp.
Stopping power is provided by the largest brakes ever fitted to a Dodge product, featuring 16-inch Brembo rotors with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers at the rear. This formidable braking system, standard across all 2024 models, ensures effective control of the Charger’s substantial curb weight of 5,838 pounds.
In terms of suspension, a multi-link front and fully independent four-link rear setup is standard, augmented by the option of dual-valve semi-active dampers for the Daytona Scat Pack with the Track Package.
The Charger Daytona offers a wealth of driving modes, including PowerShot mode for a temporary 40-hp boost and Race Options like Donut Mode and Drift Mode for spirited driving enthusiasts.
Externally, the Charger Daytona retains the striking design cues from its concept iteration, featuring a distinctive R-Wing passthrough enhancing aerodynamics and illuminated Fratzog logos. Wheel options include 18×8-inch Tech Silver wheels for the R/T and 20×11-inch Satin Carbon wheels for the Daytona Scat Pack.
Inside, the cabin exudes a sporty ambiance, complemented by Attitude Adjustment ambient lighting and a host of premium materials. Technology highlights include a customizable instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen equipped with Uconnect 5 infotainment software.
In terms of range, the Daytona R/T is estimated to deliver over 317 miles, while the Scat Pack targets 260 miles, with fast charging capabilities allowing for efficient replenishment.
Production for coupe variants of the electric Charger Daytona Scat Pack and R/T is scheduled to commence mid-year, with four-door models slated for Q1 2025, alongside the introduction of combustion-powered models. Pricing and ordering details will be disclosed at a later date.
With the Charger Daytona EV, Dodge continues its legacy of delivering high-performance vehicles while embracing the future of electric mobility.
