Daimler Vans USA has issued a safety recall for the Sprinter due to a potential electrical issue involving the incorrect routing of the main wiring harness.
This oversight poses various safety risks, including the possibility of an electrical short leading to a fire, loss of propulsion, power steering failure, or brake control system failure.
Discovered during a quality control audit in November 2022, Mercedes-Benz identified improper routing of the main wiring harness in certain Sprinter vans.
While a rework measure was initially implemented, further evaluations revealed the need for additional corrective actions.
The affected population includes 828 vans produced for the 2023 model year between August 18, 2022, and March 8, 2023.
Dealerships nationwide are conducting inspections and necessary rework free of charge for affected owners. Part numbers for the main wiring harness and cable strap have been provided for reference.
Despite this setback, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter remains a versatile option in the commercial van segment, offering various configurations and powertrain options, including an electric variant.
