The Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made significant strides in combating cybercrime, as evidenced by the recent arrest of 48 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud, commonly known as ‘Yahoo Boys,’ along with a herbalist, in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
The arrests, which took place on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, were the result of diligent investigative work following credible intelligence gathered by the agency. The suspects were apprehended at various locations within Lokoja.
Among those detained was an herbalist suspected of providing spiritual assistance to the fraudsters. Upon their arrest, a cache of items was recovered, including 10 luxury cars, two motorcycles, 11 laptops, 83 mobile phones, and a variety of charms believed to be used for illicit purposes.
All of the suspects are male and fall within the age range of 17 to 34 years old. Following the conclusion of thorough investigations, they will be presented before the court to face charges related to conspiracy and obtaining property under false pretenses.
The EFCC remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of financial crimes are brought to justice and that the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system is upheld.
