The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has made headlines by setting lap records and pushing automaker benchmarks to new heights. Clocking an impressive 7:07.55 lap time at the Nurburgring, this model boasts 778 standard horsepower and an innovative Attack Mode.
Despite a slight delay due to daylight savings time, the Taycan Turbo GT emerged as a pre-production marvel, earning its title as the fastest four-door series-production electric vehicle at the ‘Ring, with Porsche development driver Lars Kern at the helm.
While the Rimac Nevera holds the overall record for series-production EVs with a 7:05.28 lap time, the Taycan Turbo GT came remarkably close, trailing by only 2.27 seconds.
Following its triumph at the ‘Ring, Porsche showcased the production-spec model at Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, where Kern achieved a record lap time of 1:27.87, surpassing the Tesla Model S Plaid’s previous benchmark.
Notably, the Taycan Turbo GT now reigns as the fastest production car across all door counts and propulsion types at the renowned California track. Porsche implemented significant upgrades across the entire 2025 Taycan lineup, introducing a new rear motor and pulse inverter on the rear axle, equipped with silicon carbide semiconductor material for heightened performance.
Operating at 900 amps, compared to the previous 600 amps on the Turbo S trim, the upgraded inverter converts battery energy into a three-phase current to drive the motors.
Advancements such as a next-generation heat pump and enhanced thermal management systems contribute to the vehicle’s overall efficiency. Furthermore, the Sport Chrono Package now features a push-to-pass function, enabling a temporary horsepower boost for 10-second intervals, with the power increase varying based on the vehicle trim.
With the Turbo S model capable of reaching a staggering 938 horsepower when utilizing launch control, the Taycan Turbo GT stands as Porsche’s most powerful and quickest production vehicle to date.
