Following the introduction of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class last year, the German automaker has introduced an AMG iteration. Enter the Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid 4Matic+, boasting a robust 603-horsepower engine, dynamic styling, and opulent interiors.

Representing a significant advancement over its predecessor, the E53 impresses with its acceleration, appealing both to outgoing E63 owners and those accustomed to the luxuriousness of the S-Class. Let’s delve deeper into this electrified powerhouse, available in a sedan and wagon configuration.

The heart of the E53 is its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, complemented by a permanently excited E-synchronous machine, yielding a combined output of 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque.

Activating the Race Start launch control function amplifies power to 603 hp, propelling the vehicle from 0-62 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds. The top speed is capped at 155 mph, extendable to 174 mph with the AMG Driver’s Package.

With claims of electric-only speeds of up to 87 mph, the E53 Hybrid seamlessly integrates its electric motor into the nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT transmission, akin to BMW’s plug-in hybrid models.

The battery, positioned beneath the trunk floor, boasts a gross capacity of 28.6 kWh and offers rapid charging capabilities, replenishing from 10-80% in just 20 minutes.

Driving enthusiasts can customize their experience with various drive modes via the AMG Dynamic Select program, including Electric and Battery Hold modes. In Electric mode, the E53 utilizes a 161-hp electric motor for a purported electric range exceeding 62 miles, albeit likely less in EPA estimates.

Enhancing its dynamic prowess is the AMG Ride Control suspension, delivering a harmonious balance of athleticism and comfort. Furthermore, the E53 benefits from a stiffer body shell, courtesy of additional struts and a new strut brace, amplifying lateral dynamics and driving precision.

Externally, the E53 exudes a refined yet assertive demeanor, characterized by an illuminated AMG radiator grille, flared front fenders, and AMG-specific side skirts. Inside, luxury abounds, with illuminated trim accents, faux leather and microfiber sports seats, and a Nappa leather-trimmed AMG Performance steering wheel.

The E53 Hybrid offers a plethora of optional features, including the MBUX Superscreen and AMG Track Pace package, catering to enthusiasts seeking heightened performance and technology integration.

A special Edition 1 variant, featuring distinctive exterior styling and bespoke interior touches, will be available for a limited period following the launch.

While pricing and availability details are yet to be disclosed, Mercedes promises to reveal this information later this year, further heightening anticipation for the Mercedes-AMG E53 Hybrid 4Matic+.
