The forthcoming debut of the Mini Cooper Aceman has been disrupted by a premature leak, surfacing ahead of its scheduled April 24 reveal, much to the likely dismay of executives at BMW Tower.
Despite this, the leaked images provide an early glimpse into the all-electric crossover, previously concealed under camouflage, now revealed via China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Positioned to bridge the gap between the compact Cooper Hardtop and larger crossovers, the Aceman bears a striking resemblance to a scaled-down iteration of the Countryman Electric.
However, initial impressions suggest that certain styling elements may not seamlessly translate to the smaller framework, lending the Aceman a more budget-oriented crossover appearance, akin to models such as the Indian/Brazilian-market Citroen C3, rather than exuding the premium compact vehicle aesthetic.
The leaked images showcase both S and Cooper trims, with discernible differentiators distinguishing the sportier variant from its standard counterpart.
Notable enhancements include upscale LED headlights with distinctive lighting signatures, silvery bronze-colored trim adorning the faux grille and bumper trim, and ‘S’ badging on the front fascia.
Similarly, variations in rear styling are apparent, with the livelier variant adorned with an ‘S’ badge on the tailgate and featuring bronze trim on the bumper, while the base model appears more understated.
Furthermore, an array of aesthetic enhancements is anticipated for both the Cooper Aceman and Aceman S, encompassing diverse color options for side mirrors, assorted decal patterns, and a range of wheel designs spanning from 17 to 19 inches.
The inclusion of JCW-branded accessories hints at the potential introduction of a full-fledged JCW model or, at the very least, a JCW styling package, though available options may vary across different markets.
Despite its compact dimensions, measuring 161.1 inches in length, 59.6 inches in height, and 69 inches in width, the Aceman conceals a surprisingly spacious interior, attributed to its electric drivetrain and a generous 102.5-inch wheelbase, which is merely three inches shorter than that of the Audi Q3.
Notably, variations in vehicle length, documented by MIIT, may be attributed to different bumper options available for respective models.
According to reports from CarNewsChina, the Aceman is anticipated to feature electric drivetrains akin to its Cooper Hardtop counterpart, with the base model offering 181 horsepower and a 40.7 kWh battery pack, while the sportier S variant is set to deliver 215 horsepower and a larger 54.2 kWh battery pack, enabling a top speed of 106 mph.
The official introduction of the Aceman is slated for April 24 at Auto China, also known as the Beijing Auto Show, with anticipated availability in the United States commencing in 2025.
