Alternatively, you could opt for a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupes or the more powerful GT 63, with ample leftovers for indulging in the V8’s thirst for fuel. Interestingly, if you lean towards a more budget-friendly option like the 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross, Subaru Impreza, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Nissan Kicks, Kia Forte, Honda HR-V, Ford Maverick, Hyundai Elantra, VW Taos, or Hyundai Kona, you could purchase ten of these vehicles at once.
However, none of these choices can match the allure of the exceptional Mercedes-AMG G 63 Grand Edition, not even the Mercedes-AMG GTs. In the past summer’s initial month, Mercedes-Benz unveiled plans for a ‘Final Edition’ of the Mercedes-Benz G 500, commemorating the 30th anniversary of the V8 engine’s introduction to the G series, with 1,500 units worldwide.
Yet, it was the Mercedes-AMG G 63 ‘Grand Edition’ that stole the spotlight, limited to just 1,000 units globally. Fast forward to the closing days of March 2024, and this exclusive model has now become available even in Australia.
For the Land Down Under, a smaller quantity is offered with right-hand drive, although exact figures remain undisclosed by Mercedes-AMG.
Nevertheless, they do disclose the lofty Manufacturer’s Recommended List Price (MRLP), which adds another AUD 50k to the Mercedes-AMG G 63’s purchase price of AUD 363,561. This totals AUD 413,561, nearly equating to $269,600 at the current exchange rate.
The MRLP encompasses GST (goods and services tax) and any applicable LCT (luxury car tax) for the base or standard specification model but excludes additional costs like registration fees, stamp duty, CTP, etc.
In return, customers receive “one of the world’s most instantly recognizable off-roaders,” with a lineage tracing back to 2002, when the first Mercedes-AMG G-Class debuted, and further back to the original G-Class released in 1979. The ‘Grand Edition’ flaunts numerous extra features to ensure it stands out in any setting.
Externally, it boasts a Manufaktur night black magno finish, adorned with gold-colored accents coated in Kalahari gold magno, rolling on 22-inch AMG-forged alloy wheels in tech gold.
Gold decals embellish the body. Internally, the black-and-gold theme continues with G Manufaktur black Nappa leather, accentuated by gold stitching, accompanied by a golden AMG logo on plaques throughout the cabin and black floor mats with gold stitching.
