Lexus Australia Set To Reopen Orders For NX Plug-in Hybrid By Year's End

Lexus anticipates resuming orders for the NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid SUV by the close of 2024, following a temporary pause in response to supply constraints. Since March 2023, Lexus has only been accepting expressions of interest for the NX 450h+, which has seen a surge in demand extending into 2025 due to limited availability.

John Pappas, CEO of Lexus Australia, explained that the company is actively negotiating increased production to meet customer demand and fulfill vehicle deliveries. “We’re striving to secure additional production to meet our customers’ needs and ensure timely delivery of their vehicles,” he stated.

The Lexus NX 450h+ is currently offered exclusively in a fully equipped F Sport trim, priced at $95,248 before on-road costs. Equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, an 18.1kWh lithium-ion battery pack, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).

It boasts a total system output of 227kW, making it the most potent variant in the lineup. Lexus claims an electric-only range of 87km and a combined cycle fuel economy of 1.3L/100km for the NX 450h+.

Charging the high-voltage battery from 0 to 100 percent using the Type 2 AC charging port at 240V (21A) reportedly takes 2.5 hours. Despite supply constraints, Lexus delivered 415 units of the NX 450h+ last year, comprising six percent of total NX deliveries.

Although facing supply challenges, the NX 450h+ emerged as the 10th best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Australia in 2023, surpassing competitors such as the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e, Range Rover Sport P460e and Peugeot 3008 GT Sport PHEV.
