On March 11th, an Omni Air International Boeing 767-300ER encountered engine issues mid-flight, prompting a diversion to Bangor, Maine, disrupting its scheduled transatlantic journey.

Departing from Baltimore Washington International (BWI) bound for Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany as Omni Air International flight 1911 at 01:35, the flight encountered unexpected challenges over Nova Scotia approximately two hours into the journey.

The aircraft, registered as N468AX and equipped with two CF6-80 engines, reported engine trouble over Nova Scotia’s coast at 37,000 ft. Following the incident, the flight made a safe landing at Bangor International Airport (BGR) at 04:22.

According to reports, the Canadian Transportation Safety Board indicated that the #1 engine had experienced a “rollback.” Maintenance crews were tasked with investigating the root cause of the issue.

Rollbacks, characterized by an uncommanded decrease in thrust, are associated with various factors such as icing, fuel flow, or engine filtration issues, as explained by NASA.

Omni Air International refrained from providing detailed comments, citing ongoing investigations. The airline, known for its extensive flight operations, conducts approximately 130 routes annually, covering 35,000 miles daily.

Despite the incident, the aviation industry has seen sporadic engine failures across different aircraft types and airlines, underscoring the necessity of stringent safety measures.
