New Nissan Navara Confirmed For Australia, Patrol Launch Date Uncertain

Nissan has officially announced the impending arrival of the next-generation Navara in Australia, slated to hit the market by early 2026. However, details regarding the launch of the highly anticipated next-gen Patrol remain undisclosed.

Set to debut in Oceania by April 2026, the new Navara will be accompanied by another yet-to-be-named vehicle referred to as the “C crossover EV” during Nissan’s recent presentation of its medium-term business plan. While speculation abounds regarding whether this crossover will be the long-awaited Ariya or an electric successor to the Qashqai, Nissan has refrained from providing specific details.

Collaborating with Mitsubishi on the development of its next-generation Navara, Nissan has hinted at the possibility of offering electric or plug-in hybrid variants of the one-ton pickup. The company plans to manufacture the new model in Mexico and introduce plug-in hybrid options in North America, suggesting a potential return to a global ute model. Notably, the current-generation Navara is absent from the North American market, where an updated version of the previous model remains available.

Drawing from Alliance partnerships, such as the collaboration between Mitsubishi and Nissan on models like the Outlander and X-Trail, it is expected that the Navara will share its platform and powertrains with another Alliance model, likely the recently revamped Mitsubishi Triton. The teaser images hint at a design language reminiscent of the Triton’s squared-off styling.

While Nissan has outlined plans for the introduction of multiple new models in Japan, Europe, and North America by fiscal year 2026, the presentation omitted details regarding the next-generation Patrol/Armada full-sized SUV. Although the next Patrol is set to launch in other markets during fiscal year 2024, its absence from Nissan’s recent announcement has left Australian consumers awaiting further updates.

Given historical precedents, such as the significant delay experienced with the current Y62-series Patrol, which entered production in Japan in 2010 but did not reach Australian shores until 2013, the uncertainty surrounding the next-gen Patrol’s arrival underscores the challenges inherent in global automotive launches.
