Mercedes-Benz is in the testing phase for the next-generation CLA-Class electric compact sedan, with prototypes on the roads. These prototypes also include versions equipped with hybrid powertrains.

The Concept CLA-Class teased the design cues for the new model last year, with Mercedes confirming sales will commence in 2025, hinting at a 2026 arrival in the U.S.

Recent sightings of another prototype suggest it could be an AMG-tuned variant. Notable features include large wheels housing robust brake packages and cross-drilled rotors that almost fill the wheels.

The rear of the vehicle is camouflaged, potentially concealing an active rear wing. New design elements, such as taillights integrating Mercedes star logos, are also visible.

While interior shots were unavailable, the concept showcased a unified panel spanning the dashboard, integrating digital screens for the gauge cluster, infotainment system, and additional display for the front passenger, along with climate control vents.

The next-generation CLA-Class will ride on the MMA platform, supporting hybrid and fully electric powertrains. It will be the pioneer model on this platform, which will eventually extend to other Mercedes models, including the C-Class segment.

Test sightings of electric C-Class and GLC-Class models have also been reported. Additionally, AMG is developing its own AMG. EA EV platform, slated for debut next year in the successor to the GT 4-Door Coupe.

The prototype for the AMG-tuned CLA-Class appears to feature all-wheel drive, evidenced by snow being kicked up from all four wheels during winter testing.

The redesigned CLA-Class will be part of a streamlined, compact range categorized by Mercedes as Entry Luxury. Other models in this segment include redesigned versions of the CLA-Class Shooting Brake, GLA-Class, and GLB-Class, all likely to receive their own AMG variants. Rumors also suggest that a new generation of A-Class hatchbacks is in the works.
