The GTD, revealed in August of 2023, is arguably the most visually striking Mustang ever created. It resembles a GT3 race car adapted for street use, boasting a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine targeting an output of over 800 horsepower. Currently, it’s among the most eye-catching vehicles showcased at the 2024 New York Auto Show.

Just take a glance at it – it’s impossible to walk past without pausing, drawn to it as if you’re on the courts at Madison Square Garden. Its design commands admiration, resembling a fusion between a muscle car and a GT3 racer from Cyberpunk 2077.

Expected to start around $300,000, Ford plans to produce only about 1,000 units. Fortunately, they should be available later this year or early 2025, allowing enthusiasts to experience them firsthand.

Until then, enthusiasts can only visit the NY International Auto Show at the Javits Convention Center in Manhattan to capture photos of the Mustang GTD for their collections.

So, what’s the essence of the GTD? It boasts a modified version of the previous Shelby GT500 engine, aiming for over 800 horsepower. Ford also targets a Nürburgring lap time of under 7 minutes, challenging the top European sports cars on their home turf.

According to Ford’s president and CEO, Jim Farley, “Mustang GTD shatters every preconceived notion of a supercar.” He emphasized that they didn’t just adopt a road car for the track; they engineered a race car for the road.

Visually, the Mustang GTD exudes speed even at a standstill, thanks to its aggressive aero kit, vented hood, fenders, splitters, and massive rear wing – all crafted from carbon fiber.

Other notable features include semi-active suspension, a transaxle cooling system with a race-inspired cover, and the first dry-sump engine oil system in a roadgoing Mustang. Additionally, it boasts a carbon fiber driveshaft connected to an 8-speed rear transaxle.

The state-of-the-art semi-active suspension even allows for a nearly 40 mm lower ride height in Track Mode. And for braking power, the GTD relies on carbon ceramic Brembo brakes.

Considering all these features, the $300,000 price tag might seem steep for a Mustang, but likening the GTD to a regular Mustang is akin to calling Steve Rogers an ordinary human.
