NASCAR indefinitely suspended 26-year-old driver Gaulding, who hasn’t raced this season but holds a NASCAR license, citing a violation of Section 4.4.D of the NASCAR Rule Book regarding the Member Code of Conduct. This action follows his arrest in Cornelius, N.C., based on a magistrate’s order, with Gaulding appearing in court at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse in Charlotte the same day.
Released on Tuesday without bail into the custody of his father, Gaulding is obligated to appear for his next court date on July 25 and is prohibited from contacting the victim. Despite not racing this season, he had a string of past NASCAR appearances, including 11 starts in the Xfinity Series and one in the Cup, notably achieving two top 10 finishes in Xfinity races with SS-Green Light Racing last season.
Throughout his career, Gaulding has competed in various NASCAR series, making 19 starts in Trucks, 79 in Xfinity, and 60 in the Cup series. Noteworthy achievements include two second-place finishes in Xfinity races at Talladega in 2019 and Daytona in 2020, as well as a win in the ARCA West Series at Phoenix in 2013.
Once considered a promising talent in stock car racing, Gaulding had early successes, winning a Legends car national championship at age 12 and becoming the youngest Super Late Model race winner at age 13, along with earning rookie of the year honors in the Pro All Star Series (PASS).
