In the United States, Toyota has recently disclosed its March and first-quarter sales figures for 2024. TMNA reported deliveries of 565,098 vehicles, marking a 20.3 percent increase compared to Q1 of 2023.
This figure nearly matches GM’s sales of 594,233 vehicles, which saw a slight decrease of 1.5% year-over-year. With just a slight push, Toyota could potentially surpass GM as the largest carmaker in America.
To gain an edge over its competitors, Toyota might consider introducing some of its exclusive models to the American market. While Japan has recently welcomed new Aqua and Corolla models with certain enhancements, the subcompact hatchback might not generate much interest in the United States.
However, the Corolla series, available in three body styles – Corolla Sport (hatchback), Corolla (sedan), and Corolla Touring (station wagon) – presents an opportunity for Toyota to appeal to American consumers.
The Corolla series in Japan has introduced a new Active Sport special edition, featuring various exterior and interior upgrades. These include a modified bumper, special alloy wheels, distinctive exterior accents, and exclusive paint options.
While these enhancements are reminiscent of Corolla GR Sport models available in other markets, unfortunately, they are not currently offered in the United States. However, Toyota continues to excel in the hybrid segment in America, with strong sales of hybrid models like Corolla HEV, RAV4 HEV, and others during the first quarter of 2024.
