The Federal Government has reopened the newly renovated Third Mainland Bridge following the completion of repair works, as announced by Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The governor emphasized the importance of road safety as the bridge reopens, urging residents to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users.
Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), echoed the call for caution, particularly urging motorists to maintain speed limits on the refurbished bridge. He highlighted the allure of the newly repaired bridge and warned against the temptation to exceed speed limits, emphasizing the potential risks involved.
The comprehensive repair works on the Third Mainland Bridge have made it more efficient and appealing for drivers, according to Bakare Oki. However, he stressed the importance of obeying traffic signs and electronic devices installed on the bridge, along with adhering to approved speed limits to ensure safe journeys.
To further enhance safety, LASTMA plans to deploy additional personnel, patrol vehicles, and recovery units on the bridge. The agency aims to provide timely assistance to motorists in case of emergencies while ensuring smooth traffic flow across the bridge and surrounding link roads.
Despite the reopening, vehicle owners and drivers are reminded to ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent any obstacles that could impede traffic flow on the bridge. LASTMA emphasizes the need for responsible driving behavior and encourages motorists to plan their journeys ahead of time to avoid unnecessary speeding and ensure a safe commuting experience.
