Tesla Slashes Prices For 2024 Model Y And Reveals Updated Specs

Tesla’s Model Y for 2024 comes with significant price reductions and minor tweaks, setting the stage for an upcoming facelift of the popular electric SUV. Prices for the 2024 Tesla Model Y in Australia have been slashed by as much as $8500, making it more accessible to customers.

The base Model Y now starts from $63,900 before on-road costs, marking a $1500 reduction, while the mid-level Long Range variant sees a $5500 price drop to $72,900. Meanwhile, the flagship Performance model is now priced at $82,900 before on-roads, representing an $8500 decrease.

Accompanying these adjustments are small design changes, including new black ‘Gemini’ wheel covers for the base and Long Range versions, as well as the introduction of three new optional exterior colors.

Although the Chinese-delivered Model Y received numerous updates, such as enhanced driving range and interior features, Australian customers will miss out on most of them. Despite being manufactured in the same Shanghai factory, the local versions lack certain upgrades like RGB interior ambient lighting and a textile dashboard material. However, a comprehensive update, codenamed Juniper, is expected next year, similar to the recent Model 3 ‘Highland’ facelift.

Prospective Tesla buyers eager to acquire a Model Y can anticipate receiving their deliveries from April to June 2024. These price adjustments coincide with recent reductions in MG’s electric vehicle prices in Australia, reflecting heightened rivalry in the electric vehicle sector.

The 2024 Tesla Model Y range comprises three versions: the Model Y RWD priced at $63,900, reflecting a $1500 reduction; the Model Y Long Range AWD priced at $72,900, featuring a $5500 decrease; and the range-topping Model Y Performance AWD priced at $82,900, boasting an $8500 price cut.

Each variant offers distinct drivetrains and performance capabilities. The Model Y RWD features a single electric motor producing 220kW of power and 330Nm of torque, while the Long Range AWD boasts a front electric motor and a 0-100km/h time of 5.0 seconds. The flagship Performance model delivers impressive outputs of 393kW and 639Nm, accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds.

In terms of efficiency, the Model Y RWD offers a driving range of 455km, while the Long Range AWD and Performance variants provide 533km and 514km, respectively. Charging capabilities range from 170kW to 250kW, depending on the model.
