Australian racing legend Peter Brock’s iconic Holden Commodore HDT Group A, known as the ‘Blue Meanie,’ is gearing up for another stint under the hammer. Nearly three years after its last auction, where it fetched over $1 million amid a heated bidding war, this rare 1985 Holden Commodore VK is set to attract collectors once again.

Originally a Holden Commodore SS, this particular model underwent extensive Group A modifications at the Holden Dealer Team’s Port Melbourne workshop. These modifications were pivotal for the car to qualify for the Australian Touring Car Championship, which adhered to international Group A regulations during that period.

What makes this vehicle truly exceptional is its unique ownership history. Initially owned by Peter Brock himself, this Commodore holds a special place in Australian motorsport history. Brock, renowned for his record-breaking nine victories at the Bathurst 1000, including a remarkable streak from 1982 to 1984, added to his legacy with this VK Commodore.

Sporting chassis number #005, a nod to Brock’s iconic racing number #05, this Blue Meanie is a symbol of his dominance on the track. Painted in Formula Blue, the car features distinctive HDT logo headlights, Brock signature front quarter panels, a commemorative Bathurst win sticker, race-inspired aero wheels, a front air dam, and a rear spoiler.

Under the hood, the Commodore is powered by a 4.9-litre Holden V8 engine, producing an impressive 196kW of power, coupled with a four-speed manual transmission. With just under 80,000km on the odometer, the car remains largely unmodified, except for a stainless steel exhaust system.

This isn’t the first time chassis #005 has gone up for auction. In May 2021, it fetched over $1 million, eventually finding its way to the current owner through a raffle. Now, it’s back on the auction block, accompanied by documentation certifying its provenance, including verification from former HDT driver John Harvey.

As bidding heats up once again, with current offers reaching $90,000, enthusiasts eagerly await the auction’s conclusion on April 11, 4:30 pm AEST. Will the ‘Blue Meanie’ reclaim its status as a million-dollar marvel? Only time will tell.
