During the ToyotaCare 250 at Richmond Raceway, NASCAR driver Joey Gase threw his rear bumper at another driver, Dawson Cram. Cram caused Gase to crash during the Xfinity Series race, and Gase wanted to show his frustration.
So, he ripped off the damaged panel from his car and threw it at Cram. NASCAR fined Gase $5,000 for his actions. However, Gase isn’t too worried about the fine because he recently got a new sponsor, Bumpers That Deliver.
Videos of the incident quickly spread online. After the race, Gase explained why he threw the bumper, saying, “I just wanted to give him a souvenir and let him know what he did.” He mentioned that he had helped Cram in the past but was disappointed by Cram’s behavior during the race.
Gase’s racing team, Joey Gase Racing, took advantage of the attention from the incident. They started selling t-shirts with the phrase “Enjoy Your Souvenir” and a picture of Gase throwing the bumper. They partnered with Bumpers That Deliver, an online retailer of replacement auto parts.
Bumpers That Deliver released a statement expressing their excitement about sponsoring Joey Gase Racing. They mentioned that Gase’s passion for racing aligns with their commitment to delivering high-quality bumpers. They also highlighted Gase’s involvement with organizations like the National Crime Prevention Council and Donate Life.
Although NASCAR fined Gase for his actions on the track, it wasn’t for throwing the bumper specifically. Instead, he was fined for approaching the cars on the track, which is against NASCAR rules. However, this won’t affect Gase’s upcoming races. His No. 53 Ford Mustang will be proudly displaying the colors of Bumpers That Deliver at the Cabo Wabo 250 race in August at the Michigan International Speedway.
