Introduced in 1968 as a more budget-friendly alternative to the GTX, the Plymouth Road Runner remained in production until 1980. Over its three generations, it evolved until 1976, when it transitioned into a trim and graphics package for the Volare.

The most coveted versions of this car belong to the muscle car era, particularly those produced between 1968 and 1971. During this period, the Road Runner enjoyed considerable success, with nearly 176,000 units sold by 1971. This 1970 model, having spent 44 years in storage, now seeks a new home.

Although the reasons for its retirement in 1980 after only a decade of use remain unclear, the Road Runner endured over four decades of storage remarkably well. Despite its extended hiatus, the car has managed to avoid significant rusting, making it a solid candidate for restoration without breaking the bank.

Remarkably, the Road Runner still boasts its original paint, albeit weathered in some areas. Aside from a distinctive aftermarket black stripe on the doors, the vehicle remains largely factory-correct and complete, with well-preserved chrome trim.

Equipped with the entry-level 383-cubic-inch big-block V8, this Road Runner offers 335 horsepower and 425 pound-feet of torque, making it a desirable specimen from 1970.

While not as rare as its higher-end counterparts, this car’s condition, coupled with its specifications and history, make it a compelling candidate for restoration. The auction for this Road Runner, located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, concludes in a week, with bidding starting at $13,000 and the reserve price yet to be met.
