Ferrari has been doing well and is the closest competitor to Red Bull in Formula 1. Carlos Sainz, besides Max Verstappen, is the only driver who won a race this year, which was the Australian Grand Prix.
In Japan, Red Bull had a strong performance, with Verstappen finishing first and Sergio Perez second. This made many people believe that Red Bull is the favorite to win titles again this year.
However, Sainz hinted that Ferrari has some big developments in progress for its SF-24 car. He thinks if Ferrari can stay close to Red Bull in the championship race, it could make things interesting later in the season.
Sainz said, “Red Bull might have an advantage in the beginning of the season until we bring upgrades to compete with them more consistently. But by then, it might be too late to catch up in the championship.”
He also mentioned that missing a race in Australia could hurt his and Ferrari’s chances in the championship, but they’ll give their best efforts. Since it’s his last year with Ferrari, they’ll try everything to do well.
Ferrari’s boss, Fred Vasseur, talked about the progress they’ve made with their car compared to last year. They improved in areas like high-speed corners and tire management.
Even though Red Bull is ahead right now, Vasseur believes that if Ferrari can pressure them, they might make mistakes like they did in Melbourne.
He said, “We improved compared to last year, but Red Bull is still a bit ahead. Our goal is to put pressure on them, and when they feel pressure, they might make mistakes.”
Vasseur also mentioned how competitive Formula 1 is this year, with four teams being very close in qualifying times. He thinks it’s important to stay humble and focused for every race.
