Kia Australia has initiated a recall for all 3948 Kia EV6 electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Australia, citing a software fault that could potentially lead to a loss of power. This action comes in response to a global recall issued last month, affecting nearly 170,000 electric vehicles within the Hyundai Motor Group, including 56,016 Kia EV6 units worldwide.

The recall notice highlights a specific software issue within the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which may develop an internal fault, triggering a warning light on the instrument cluster and interrupting the charging process of the 12 Volt battery. Consequently, this malfunction could result in a loss of motive power during operation.

Kia emphasizes the importance of addressing this issue promptly, as ignoring the warning lights may escalate the risk of accidents, potentially causing harm to vehicle occupants and other road users. The affected Kia EV6 vehicles were manufactured between 2021 and 2024.

Owners of the impacted vehicles are advised to contact their preferred Kia dealer immediately to schedule an appointment for the necessary software upgrade of the ICCU. Additionally, Kia will conduct inspections and replace the ICCU if deemed necessary, all at no cost to the owner. For further inquiries or assistance, Kia Australia’s Customer Service hotline is available at 13 15 42.
