Honda has pulled the wraps off three electric vehicles ahead of the 2024 Beijing Motor Show, marking a significant step in its electrification journey. The Ye P7 and Ye S7 crossovers, along with the Ye GT Concept, are set to hit the Chinese market, boasting a newly developed electric-only platform tailored for the region.
Although distinct from the e:Architecture platform slated for North America, these models showcase Honda’s commitment to innovative EV technology. While details about the drivetrains remain under wraps, Honda promises a range of configurations, including single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive setups.
Embodying Honda’s “man maximum, machine minimum” philosophy, these models prioritize space and efficiency. Notably, they proudly display Honda’s simplified H-mark logo, signaling their electric lineage. Eschewing the traditional H logo on the tailgate, these vehicles opt for a sleek new wordmark design.
The Ye P7 and Ye S7, which share a common platform, feature distinctive styling cues with unique front- and rear-end designs. Dongfeng Honda will manufacture and distribute the Ye S7, characterized by Y-shaped headlights and bold light bars. Meanwhile, the Ye P7, produced by Honda’s joint venture with GAC, sports eye-catching crab claw-style lights.
Scheduled for a late 2024 debut in China, both the Ye P7 and Ye S7 aim to capture the growing demand for electric mobility in the region. Additionally, the Ye GT Concept offers a peek into Honda’s future EV lineup, with a fastback-style sedan expected to hit the market before the end of 2025.
The “Ye” moniker, derived from the Chinese word 烨, meaning “blaze of fire” or “glorious,” underscores Honda’s ambition to ignite the electric revolution in China. With plans to launch ten EVs in China by 2027, Honda is steadfast in its mission to achieve an electric-only portfolio in the region by 2035.
This announcement aligns with Honda’s global vision to transition entirely to electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2040, signaling a bold step toward carbon neutrality by 2050.
