Lucid is keeping its Air Grand Touring electric sedan fresh with a few minor upgrades for the 2024 model year. The Air Grand Touring is now equipped with a heat pump from the Sapphire model. There are also updates to the motors and battery, and charging speeds are 15-30 percent faster than before.
Lucid Motors burst onto the scene with the Air sedan, its first car for the 2022 model year. A couple of years later, the California-based startup is giving its electric luxury cruiser a few small tweaks to stay at the top of its game. Today the brand announced details about the 2024 Air Grand Touring, the midrange model that sits above the Pure and Touring but comes in far cheaper than the high-performance $250,500 Sapphire.
Lucid says that the EPA range test for electric vehicles recently became stricter but boasts that the Air Grand Touring has retained its 516-mile estimated range rating for 2024 nonetheless. That is the highest range estimate of any EV on sale in the U.S. right now, although it requires speccing the 19-inch wheels. While numbers aren’t out yet for 2024, the 2023 Grand Touring with the 20-inch or 21-inch wheels had a 469-mile estimate.
The range is helped by updates to the powertrain inspired by the technology found in the Sapphire. Lucid says it revised the motor design, battery chemistry, and thermal characteristics in the Grand Touring to “reduce energy wasted as heat,” making the package more efficient. For 2024 the Grand Touring also comes fitted with the heat pump from the 1234-horsepower Sapphire, helping maintain range in cold weather.
Lucid also claims it has improved charging speeds. No specifics were provided, but the company claims when hooked up to a DC fast-charger, the Air will recharge around 15-30 percent faster. Lucid also says the automatic preconditioning when routing to a charging station has been upgraded. The 2024 Grand Touring starts at $111,400, over $15,000 less than it cost in 2023.
