Tesla has initiated a recall for the 2024 Cybertruck due to potential issues with the accelerator pedal, which could lead to unintended acceleration. The recall affects 3878 vehicles, with reports indicating that nearly all Cybertrucks produced between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, are impacted.

The problem arises from a cover on the accelerator pedal that may become unlatched and trapped in the driver’s footwell interior trim when subjected to high force. This scenario could result in the accelerator pedal remaining depressed, causing the vehicle to continue accelerating unintentionally.

However, it’s important to note that pressing the brake pedal will immediately cut drive torque to the wheels, aiding in slowing down the vehicle. Tesla was made aware of the issue following a customer complaint on March 31, 2024. Subsequent testing confirmed that the brake system functioned correctly during the incident, bringing the vehicle to a stop when both pedals were pressed.

As a result, Tesla initiated a voluntary recall on April 12 to address the accelerator pedal concern. To rectify the issue, Tesla plans to replace or modify the accelerator pedal assembly and cover to prevent future dislodgement. By April 17, production changes had been implemented to equip new accelerator pedals.

Vehicles currently at delivery centers and those in transit to customers will undergo the necessary fix before being handed over, aligning with Tesla’s commitment to addressing the issue promptly.

While no accidents or injuries related to the accelerator pedal concern have been reported as of April 15, Tesla has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of Cybertruck owners. News of the recall surfaced on social media after a Cybertruck owner shared a video demonstrating the dislodged pedal cover on TikTok, prompting Tesla to take swift action.
