The Silverstone-based racing team recently announced a new deal with Alonso. This means they will continue working together in Formula 1 until at least 2026.

However, the team’s principal, Mike Krack, had some private concerns about Alonso’s commitment to continue racing in F1. He mentioned that the demanding schedule and travel in Formula 1 might have made Alonso hesitant about staying.

Krack said, “Fernando was very clear when he joined that the calendar and the travel is draining a lot of energy, especially if you want to do things the way he does them.”

Despite these concerns, Krack was pleased to see Alonso’s dedication to Formula 1. He noted that Alonso loves the sport more than anything else and is fully committed to it.

While there were rumors about Alonso possibly joining Red Bull or Mercedes, Krack stated that internally, there were no signs of Alonso considering other options. Alonso had promised that if he chose to stay in F1, Aston Martin would be his priority.

“Fernando is a man of his word,” Krack said. “He told us that what he communicated to the outside was the same as what he communicated to the inside.”

To avoid uncertainty in the driver market for 2025, Krack and Alonso set an early deadline to decide on their partnership. They both stuck to their agreement, and everything went as planned.

Now that Alonso’s contract is settled, the team is focused on finalizing a new deal with Lance Stroll, Alonso’s teammate. Krack emphasized the importance of continuity and expressed optimism about reaching an agreement with Stroll in the coming weeks.
