Mercedes-Benz introduces the groundbreaking G 580 with EQ Technology, marking the electrification of its iconic G-Class with uncompromising off-road capabilities. This all-electric variant combines legendary design language with innovative drive technology, ushering in a new era of off-road exploration and adventure.
Retaining the signature angular silhouette and iconic elements of the G-Class, the all-new electric model embraces tradition while integrating cutting-edge electric drive technology. It features a high-voltage lithium-ion battery with a usable capacity of 116 kWh, delivering a range of up to 473 kilometers according to WLTP standards.
Markus Schäfer, a Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Chief Technology Officer, emphasizes the vehicle’s evolution: “The innovative drive concept with four individually controlled electric motors raises the legendary performance of our off-road icon to a new level while retaining its familiar angular silhouette and character.”
With a total output of 432 kW from four individually controlled electric motors, the G 580 with EQ Technology sets new off-road standards. It introduces exclusive functions such as G-TURN, enabling precise maneuvering on loose surfaces, and G-STEERING, reducing the turning circle when driving off-road. The three-speed intelligent off-road crawl function ensures optimal propulsion while navigating challenging terrain.
Maintaining the G-Class’s renowned off-road capabilities, the electric variant boasts a gradability of up to 100% and remains stable on sideways slopes of up to 35 degrees. With a maximum fording depth of 850 millimeters, it outperforms its conventionally powered counterparts.
Intelligent torque vectoring virtually replicates conventional differential locks, while the G-ROAR feature offers a unique driving sound experience. Visually, the all-new G 580 with EQ Technology retains the timeless design cues of its predecessors, with subtle enhancements for an electric era. Optional features include a black-panel radiator grille and optimized aerodynamic elements.
Inside, the G 580 offers extensive standard equipment, including the MBUX infotainment system, ambient lighting, and a multifunction steering wheel in Nappa leather. Optional extras such as KEYLESS-GO and the Burmester® 3D surround sound system enhance the luxury experience.
