Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s former Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of an ongoing fraud investigation. Sirika is suspected of laundering up to $6.3 million through various contracts and is under scrutiny for his involvement in the controversial Nigeria Air project.
Sirika was taken into EFCC custody on April 23, following allegations of awarding fraudulent contracts to a company owned by his brother. The EFCC is investigating multiple charges against Sirika, including conspiracy, abuse of office, diversion of public funds, and money laundering.
The Nigeria Air project, initially announced in 2018, has faced scrutiny over its transparency and execution. Sirika is scheduled to appear in court next week in connection with the project, as the investigation into his activities continues.
The arrest of Sirika underscores the challenges facing Nigeria’s aviation sector and highlights the government’s commitment to combatting corruption and ensuring accountability in public office.
