Recent sightings of camouflaged prototypes in the United States reveal two variants, one with LED reflector-style headlights and the other with halogen reflector headlights, rated differently by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The better-equipped prototype, resembling a blend of the SL and Pro-X trim levels, features Hankook Dynapro AT2 all-terrain tires and a redesigned radiator grille. Meanwhile, the Gun Metallic variant sports camo but showcases new-for-2025 alloy wheels. Despite exterior concealment, both prototypes offer sliding rear windows, hinting at their practicality.
Inside, speculation suggests a potential upgrade to a digital instrument cluster, though Nissan’s cost-cutting measures may influence its inclusion. However, a revised infotainment system, possibly the 12.3-inch touchscreen from the successful Rogue, could raise the Frontier’s interior experience.
Mechanically, no significant changes are expected for the naturally aspirated V6 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission. The VQ38DD engine delivers 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque, positioning the Frontier competitively within its segment. With strong sales during the first quarter of 2024, Nissan aims to maintain momentum, with plans reportedly including an electric truck collaboration with Mitsubishi for the North American market.
