In the qualifying rounds, William Byron led the first group, clocking an average lap speed of 162.864 mph, followed by Denny Hamlin and A.J. Allmendinger. Among those advancing to the final round were Noah Gragson and Kyle Busch. However, notable drivers like Bubba Wallace, Chris Buescher, Ross Chastain, and Corey Heim failed to make the cut, with Heim, substituting for the injured Erik Jones, making his series debut for Legacy Motor Club.
In the second group, Ryan Blaney, who had topped Saturday’s practice session, secured the fastest time with an average lap speed of 163.125 mph. Tyler Reddick followed closely in second place, with Michael McDowell in third. Alex Bowman and Chase Briscoe also advanced to the final round. However, drivers like Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr., Austin Cindric, and Christopher Bell faced setbacks, with Bell spinning during his attempt but fortunately only brushing the wall.
The final starting lineup saw Busch on pole position, followed by Ryan Blaney, William Byron, Tyler Reddick, and Noah Gragson completing the top five. The rest of the top 10 included Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, Michael McDowell, Alex Bowman, and A.J. Allmendinger. Zane Smith and Kaz Grala missed out on qualifying due to accidents in practice, necessitating the use of backup cars.
Despite the challenges and uncertainties associated with Talladega, Busch’s pole position marked a significant achievement for his team, reflecting their determination to improve performance.
