Kyle Busch had a great day at the qualifying round in Dover. He was the first to go out and set a fast pace. His speed of 162.191 mph was faster than anyone else, including Ryan Blaney, who was quickest in practice but ended up second in qualifying.
This is Busch’s first pole position of the season and his team’s, Richard Childress Racing, first too. He’s had a bit of a tough time recently, not winning any races yet and being 17th in the series standings. But he’s optimistic and thinks they’re heading in the right direction.
Behind Busch and Blaney, William Byron, Tyler Reddick, and Noah Gragson rounded out the top five for the starting lineup.
In the first qualifying round, Byron was the fastest in his group, followed by Denny Hamlin and A.J. Allmendinger. In the second group, Blaney led the way, with Reddick and Michael McDowell close behind.
Some drivers didn’t make it to the final round, like Bubba Wallace and Chris Buescher. Corey Heim, who’s replacing the injured Erik Jones, also missed out. He’s making his series debut but didn’t qualify for the final round.
Christopher Bell had a bit of a scare when he spun during his qualifying lap, but luckily, he didn’t hit the wall too hard. Zane Smith and Kaz Grala couldn’t participate in qualifying because they had accidents in practice and had to switch to backup cars.
