Dale Coyne Racing (DCR) has confirmed Katherine Legge for its No. 51 entry powered by Honda, in partnership with Rick Ware Racing, for the upcoming Indy 500. This marks Legge’s fourth attempt at the prestigious event, following a disappointing outing last year with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing that ended with a crash on pit road after just 41 laps. Despite the setback, Legge set records for the fastest one-lap and four-lap qualification speeds for a woman in the history of the Indy 500.

Eager for redemption, Legge expressed her gratitude for another opportunity at “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” She acknowledged the significance of having e.l.f. Cosmetics is the primary sponsor, noting its pioneering role as the first beauty brand to sponsor an IndyCar. Legge’s determination to excel at Indy remains unwavering.

Shortly after Legge’s announcement with DCR for the Indy 500, Gradient Racing revealed her removal from its GTD lineup in the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Legge hinted at focusing on securing more IndyCar opportunities, indicating ongoing negotiations that may lead to future announcements. Despite the split with Gradient Racing, Legge remains optimistic about her racing prospects.

When questioned about potential participation in more IMSA events, Legge remained coy, hinting at possibilities while maintaining her focus on IndyCar. It is speculated that any additional races added to Legge’s schedule would likely involve DCR, given her previous stint with the team in Champ Car and her familiarity with them.

Legge’s reunion with DCR holds sentimental value as she reminisces about her earlier days with the team during the 2007 Champ Car season. She highlights the enduring support of Dale and Gail Coyne, emphasizing the team’s consistency and their long-standing presence in the IndyCar paddock.

Legge’s journey, from being a trailblazer in open-wheel racing to her current partnership with e.l.f. Cosmetics underscores her commitment to empowering women in sports and showcasing female talent on a prominent platform like the Indy 500.
